What is TOPS? Reading edge-AI compute figures
Glossary Updated
TOPS (tera operations per second) is a peak integer-compute figure for AI chips, usually quoted at INT8 and higher with sparsity. Compare at the same precision and check real model FPS and power - not just the headline number.
TOPS is the most quoted peak-compute figure for AI accelerators. The same chip yields different numbers at INT8, FP16 or sparse INT8: Jetson AGX Orin's 275 TOPS is sparse INT8, Hailo-8's 26 TOPS is INT8. Align the precision before comparing across brands.
The practical method is to benchmark your target model: YOLO-family FPS, concurrent streams and whole-system power on the candidate platform. KIES engineers can advise from measurements for your model and stream count.
